Classes at Frederick Smith Secondary School were disrupted after a female teacher was hit in the head with a rock thrown by a student (June 12). She sought medical attention and reported the incident to police. This marks the second recent case of student-on-teacher violence at the school; another teacher was previously injured by a bottle, with glass particles entering her eye. Leaders of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union and the Barbados Union of Teachers expressed deep concern over the rising violence against educators. Minister of Educational Transformation, Chad Blackman, met with union officials and reiterated that violence in schools is unacceptable.
