UPDATE: There was another fatal shooting today (Nov 19) in Station Hill, St. Michael (two in one day). Also, missing from my count was a homicide that happened in Station Hill on Sunday November 16th. The Database has been updated. With the additional data, it brings the total to at least 46 homicides for 2025, and at least 7 for November 2025.

ORIGINAL POST:

Today’s fatal shooting in President Kennedy Drive, St. Michael brings the total to at least 44 homicides so far this year, and at least five for November 2025.

Since we’ve already reached five this month, I was curious to see how November compares with previous years. Using data from the Barbados Homicide Database, I looked back at the number of homicides recorded in each November from 2015 to 2025.

Chart 1

Looking at the numbers this way helps give some perspective on whether this year’s November is typical, unusually high, or somewhere in between.

While I was at it, I also took a quick look at the year-to-date homicide totals for 2025 compared with the same period in 2024:

As always, please remember that my figures are not official; they’re compiled from publicly available sources (which means they may be understated), mainly mainstream media reports and updates posted by the Barbados Police Service on Facebook.

  1. I like both Chart 1 and Chart 2.
The numbers from January to June were distressing and suggested we might top 50 murders again. Then for some reason we had a lull in July to September. I have seen an attempted explanation for this lull; I think increased policing was suggested as the reason.

Now, the numbers for October and parts of November are already in and I am wondering what will happen in the last quarter of 2025. Will we be able to stay below 50 events for the year?

Let me add, that you are doing some beautiful work.
