An eight-year-old girl is deeply shaken after she, her mother, uncle, and a family friend were robbed at gunpoint in Westmoreland, St. James, around 12:55 a.m. today (Sep 1). The family had just stepped off a Transport Board bus after attending the CARIFESTA 15 closing ceremony when the attack occurred.
The girl’s uncle, who works as a security guard, recounted the frightening experience. He admitted the family is not usually out at that late hour but said the incident highlights his fears about rising crime in the area. While improved street lighting could help, he believes it will not solve the problem entirely and is urging authorities to relocate the bus stop to improve safety.
