A group of 14 nurses at the St Philip District Hospital in Barbados are calling for immediate action after a Ghanaian colleague was violently stabbed in the neck just outside the hospital compound on Friday night (June 13). The unprovoked attack has left the nursing team traumatized and furious over years of unaddressed safety concerns along the dimly lit, isolated path between Hilda Skeene Primary School and the hospital. Nurses report previous incidents of robbery and alleged sexual assault in the same area and say their calls for improved lighting, security, and transportation have gone unanswered. Despite the seriousness of the attack, the nurses say there has been no outreach from health officials, and counselling was delayed until Monday. The injured nurse is in stable condition, and police investigations are ongoing.
